Dark rain splashed everywhere. The nighttime air was hard, cold and vicious. Everything seemed silent.

A little girl, probably no bigger than 5, was playing with a kitten on the lawn.

Suddenly everything went still. The air seemed to stay still and felt like electricity. The little girl looked up quickly. Her eyes went wide with horror. In the distance she could see a nuke approaching, the wide circle of the explosion getting closer and closer every second and saturating, drowning everything in white light.

She clutched her kitten tightly and closed her eyes tightly. She knew the nuke would make her dead. There was nothing she could do but hope. But she knew it was too late and with that thought, she drowned  ouy of sight into the expanding white flood of nuclear light.
